FUE Hair Transplant in Turkey

Introduced in the early 2000's the FUE ( Follicular Unit Extraction ) has become the reference technique of modern hair transplantation over the years.

How is FUE performed ?

The principle of FUE is to extract the hair grafts ( follicular units which contain 1 to 3 hair follicles from the donor area using a micro-punch. The diameter of this punch is very small, between 0.7 to 0.9 mm. This micro-punch can be manual but must often it is connected to a motor.

Each graft is extracted individually. The  donor area for hair grafts extends from ear to ear, including a large posterior portion of the scalp. The micro-punch targets the follicular unit each time and makes a circular incision around it. The punching depth allows manual extraction of the grafts one by one using very fine forceps. At this stage, the angle of the micro-punch is very important to avoid the hair follicle transection. The special micro-punch we use and the experience we have gained over the years allow us to minimize this incident. The main advantage of the FUE technique compared the FUT is very tiny incisions that cause no linear scar. They are not visible even with short haircut.

Extracted grafts are classified and separated based on the number of follicles they contain. This is done to place the grafts in the most optimal way possible. For instance, grafts that contain single hair follicle will be placed on the frontal hairline to ensure a very natural appearance while grafts that contain multi follicles will be placed where high density is needed on the top of the scalp. These grafts are refrigerated in a special solution while awaiting to be transplanted in the bald area in order to keep their quality to obtain a strong regrowth.

The second phase of the surgery is to create micro-slots (these are micro-slots, not holes) that will accommodate hair grafts. This is one of the most important part of this baldness surgery as it determines the orientation and angle of hair regrowth.

Recent publications show that application of a PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) session between the micro-slot creation phase and the placement of hair implants increases hair density by boosting dormant follicles. We systematically apply intraoperative PRP.

The third and last phase of this baldness surgery consists of placing the hair grafts, previously classified and separated based on the number of follicles they contain, with a methodology which aims to obtain sufficient density and a natural appearance.

Advantages of hair transplantation with the FUE technique

The main advantage of the FUE technique is to avoid the visible long linear scar of the FUT that extends from one ear to the other across the posterior part of the scalp.

On the other hand, for patients who have already had a hair transplant procedure with the FUT technique having a long and enlarged scar. FUE still allows grafts to be taken. A new session would be impossible as the lack of skin elasticity.

The FUE technique makes it possible to place hair transplants on a prior FUT scar and thus make it less visible or even invisible.
